How to use these numbers
Decide what to insure
Few people insure 100%. Many cover one to three years of care and plan to pay the rest from income and savings.
Count your income
Social Security, pensions and annuity income keep paying during care. Subtract them from the yearly cost.
Plan for the waiting period
Most benefits start after a waiting period, often 90 days. Keep cash to cover it.
Compare ways to fund it
Living benefits riders, annuities with care features and LTC coverage each cover part of the cost differently.
Important information
- Costs are 2025 medians from the CareScout Cost of Care Survey (national and ranked state tables, released March 2026). In-home care assumes the hours you enter at the state's median hourly rate.
- Future costs are hypothetical, grow at the rate you enter, and are for illustration only. Actual costs vary by city, provider and level of care.
- This calculator is educational and is not a quote or recommendation.
